Babymoon

This post is way overdue, but the busyness of motherhood is making me dream of taking a trip out of the city with my husband. Should I feel bad for wanting some me-time with my husband? Of course, leaving little Raffy behind is not an option now, so we will just have to wait. Here’s a throwback to our lovely babymoon – the last time we were able to travel as just husband and wife.

In the seventh month of my pregnancy, we decided to embark on our babymoon. Taking a babymoon is a relatively new thing to do while nesting, and we wanted to do it because it made so much sense. Taking some time off to reconnect and just relax as husband and wife felt like a very important thing to do, plus, I’m glad that we made an effort to do this because plenty of things change after giving birth. We considered the babymoon as our last time for an outing before we became three in the family – a time when we had fewer things to worry about, and that we only had to focus on each other as husband and wife. Those things can sometimes become luxuries when you have a baby to take care of, and when you are adjusting as new parents.

A babymoon does not need to be extravagant. Since we were preparing for our baby’s arrival back then, spending a huge sum of money on an outing is simply impractical. We settled for a dinner buffet in Sonya’s Garden, an overnight stay in Moon Garden Cafe, and some drinks in Bag of Beans before hitting the road.  The entire trip, save for gas and toll, just cost us less than PHP 5000. Not bad, eh?

For some, our itinerary may seem boring but I was already seven months pregnant back then, and our purpose for the trip was to have a quiet time reconnecting as husband and wife. For most of our stay, we were just happy to lounge around in Moon Garden’s beautiful cottage and surroundings. It truly is a beautiful place where I got to relax and just stay in the moment of transitioning to be a new mother, with my baby’s every-supportive new dad by our side.

We are able to appreciate the solitude and silence in Moon Garden. The thing is, the place is so isolated, we couldn’t even find the staff needed for checking in. Even though we had trouble finding staff, they were very warm and accommodating. The rooms do not have air-conditioning units, but it didn’t matter at that time because the weather was cool due to constant rains. The hearty breakfast was really homey and filling, and the place in the middle of the pond where we had our breakfast was just heavenly. We would definitely come back here someday for some R&R. My husband booked Moon Garden through private message on their Facebook page, but they can now be booked via Airbnb!

Where did you go on your babymoon? Do you think that going on this type of trip is essential, or just a waste of effort and money? I would love to hear your thoughts!

  1. That is so sweet… haha it took me few seconds to figure out what a babymoon is haha
I’ve never heard of the Moon Cafe and I should be ashamed because I am from Cavite and Tagaytay is just one ride away… that open air cottage surrounded by lilies is truly a romantic place!

  2. I did not have a babymoon with my husband but we had a short staycation so we can be together, just us and talk about anything before the little one comes out. I think it was really nice. I didn’t regret that we didn’t have a babymoon, but I think it was not a good idea for us also as we don’t have a car of our own. I think commuting would be a challenge. Yours look nice, I bet you had a great quality time.

    1. A staycation is also a great option for a babymoon. The main point of the entire thing is for the soon-to-be-parents to bond and unwind. Things are so different when there’s a baby in the picture. Now, we have to schedule dates and quiet conversations, unlike before when we just leave the house on a whim. 🙂

  3. This is really sweet. The place you have selected seems like a peaceful and relaxing place for a good bonding time.We didn’t have such babymoon, but we enjoyed some day trips, shopping for baby items etc etc. After the baby,it is full of new things and more responsibilities.so,such stay is really good before the baby’s arrival!

    1. We are really glad to have made Moon Garden as our venue for the babymoon. Our babymoon almost didn’t happen because of the tight funds for extras when preparing for the baby’s arrival. I’m so glad that this beautiful and affordable place exists!

  4. Now that you’ve mentioned it and given it its own term (babymoon), I have to agree that it does indeed make a lot of sense. Kids definitely change everything. A nice, quiet time to reconnect and chill while there’s still just two of you should recharge you both up enough to take on the challenge of raising your little human/s after. Tagaytay does seem perfect for this purpose, especially because of its cool climate, which would be so refreshing to the preggy mom who usually feels ‘banasin’. 🙂

  5. Babymooning is cute. Of course, you must go out occasionally with your husband to go out and enjoy. It is healthy and good for the unborn kid. Happy mothers make happy kids. And happy kids make happy societies.

  6. I seriously thought differently upon seeing “Babymoon.” I guess it’s really a necessity in order to be intimate with your family. Now that you have a baby on the way, things will change differently. Disconnecting from the rest of the world to just be with your baby and your family is something that other families should look into doing. Plus, the place looks like something you’d see when you travel to a province. 🙂

  7. This is the first time I hear of a babymoon, but I like the word as much as I like its meaning. To me, the idea of a babymoon is just perfect since you have to build stronger bonds and connections with your partner before the long period of not being able to dedicate some time to each other comes. So, this is just something I will definitely do once I am in such a state.

  8. Wow, this is such a lovely read. I didn’t know that there’s such thing as a babymoon and it made me so curious what was it. Anyway, I like the idea of granting both of you a good time to relax and just enjoy as husband and wife. It is very rare and I adore you and your husband for being an inspiration for other married couple to also get time to relax and enjoy. I’ll surely do this as well if I get married. I really like it. Oh by the way, can’t wait to read about your baby soon.

  9. I have seen the advantage of babymoon. It prepares both parents to the coming of their child and at the same time be careful of their choices. Of course, they do not want anything to happen to the mother and her baby while on their trip or vacation. So brave of you to go out at 7th months. Most are having a hard time traveling by that time. But surely you had a great time. I wonder if the baby inside the tummy also felt that the place and time was somehow special.

  10. Babymoon is definitely a good idea! I think Moon Garden is also a nice spot for a romantic getaway. Thanks for introducing it to me. I often seek not too crowded place to have staycation too every once in a while. And good thing it’s just a few hours drive from Manila.
